American Horror Story, @ahsfx

I recently read an article on Yahoo! that American Horror Story “took it too far” with the high school shooting scene that opened up episode six. Yes, a reenactment of a very realistic American high school shooting is horrifying as fuck; hence the title of the show. Producer and creator Brad Falchumentioned in an interview that the series was meant to scare viewers and he “wants people to be a little off balance afterwards.” He has done exactly this. Admittingly, after episode 6 I couldn’t sleep for a few days. I was truly haunted by Evan Peter’s character, Tate Langdon. As disturbed as I was, I didn’t poorly criticize the show or blog about how they took it too far. Instead, I found myself on the couch exactly a week later because I was itching for more American Horror.

This isn’t your regular horror show, people. Yes, it incorporates the eeriness of the supernatural as well as the adrenaline-pumping fear attached to scary music and suspense; but all of this has been done before. There’s nothing more terrifying then realizing that bad things do happen to innocent people, that there may be such a thing as the very angry walking dead, and that overall the lives that we live are surrounded by sick and twisted shit. I keep watching American Horror Story not because they “took things too far” but because they took horror to a new level. At the end of each episode I don’t say, “Wow, that was scary. Good thing its entirely unrealistic, haha.” No. Instead, I am reminded of how horrifying, tragic, and filthy this world really is; and that my friend is true horror.

proud to say i know this prick.

Blogliardi: An essay written by a Penn State student (that I wrote)

First off I just wanna say what the FUCK!? JoPa’s a hero and him and his football team the Penn State Nittany Lions, are the reason I decided to go to college here at Penn State (GO LIONS!!!)! So it is therefore very unfair that our legendary football team’s coach, Joe Paterno, is being fired…

Apparently, there’s an “infinity loop” at the center of the Milky Way!  Via MSNBC.com:

If you look for signs and portents in the skies, you can’t do much better than this: The Herschel Space Telescope has provided the best view yet of an infinity sign at the center of our Milky Way galaxy.

“This is what is so exciting about launching a new space telescope like Herschel,” Sergio Molinari of the Institute of Space Physics in Rome said in an image advisory issued today. “We have a new and exciting mystery on our hands, right at the center of our own galaxy.”

Molinari is the lead author of a research paper on the twisted ring, appearing in a recent issue of Astrophysical Journal Letters. Portions of the ring have been spotted before, but Herschel’s image cuts through the dust at the galactic center to reveal the full structure in submillimeter wavelengths. The version of Herschel’s view (enhanced, above) highlights the shape of the ring, which stretches across more than 600 light-years.

…Astronomers say the ring is a dense, twisted tube of cold gas mixed with dust — and a cradle for infant stars. They used readings from the ground-based Nobeyama Radio Observatory in Japan to determine how fast gas was circulating around the ring. The radio observations showed that the ring is rolling as a unit, at the same speed as the rest of our galaxy.

The main mystery has to do with how the ring got twisted. The origins of the structure of galactic centers are not well understood, but astronomers suspect that our Milky Way’s shape may have been affected by gravitational interactions with nearby galaxies — perhaps including the Andromeda Galaxy, our big celestial neighbor.

So I guess what Buzz Lightyear really meant to say is “To the galactic core — and beyond!”
